About the event
The Chor zur Welt is one of five join-in ensembles at the Elbphilharmonie. Formed in 2016 as a German-Syrian project choir for the Elbphilharmonie festival »Salām Syria«, the choir consists of more than 50 amateur singers from more than 15 countries, and performs its intercultural programmes in the Elbphilharmonie and around Hamburg’s city districts.
In the first major project of the season, the singers now perform songs from around the world at the Körberhaus in Bergedorf, and invite the audience to join them on a journey through their various native countries under the theme »Touch Your Soul and Sing!«. Under their long-standing conductor Jörg Mall, the choir sets off for the Iberian peninsula, on the way exploring songs from France, Spain and Portugal, as well as making a couple of diversions to Tunisia, Albania, Turkey and Armenia. As a nod to the Kurdistan Festival in November, the choir also performs a traditional Kurdish song.
In addition, two songs from Zimbabwe provide a foretaste of the second major project in June, when the Chor zur Welt will be coached by the singer and producer Ramadu, who was born and raised in Zimbabwe, and gets familiar with the Bantu languages Ndbele and Xhosa.
